Whispering Pines B&B

Whispering Pines Bed and Breakfast is located on the Northwest edge of historic Nebraska City secluded on 6 acres of beautiful landscape.  The award winning prestigious Burr Oak tree is the centerpiece to the flower and water gardens while the 100 year old pine and spruce are scattered amidst the property.  The watchable wildlife scamper and play in every season and with more than 20 species of birds, nature's outdoor entertainment is never far and a great show from the wraparound porch.

The 1878 Victorian home offers modern comforts amongst its many antiques.  You choose from four uniquely themed bedrooms in the house or for rustic privacy and seclusion, stay down the hill in an old horse barn.  All rooms have private bathrooms, robes, refrigerators and luxury linens.  Alarm clocks, hair dryers and bottled water is also provided for your convienence.

As a guest, you'll find hospitality and feel right at home in the common areas with homemade snacks and drinks, games and puzzles, books and magazines and a TV with cable and DVD player in the Den.  You can even play around on the parlor piano.

Jeanna, your innkeeper and hostess, has a passion for food and loves to cook. Her gourmet breakfasts consist of a main course such as an Apple Baked Pancake, Orange Pecan French Toast or Rachel Ray's Candian Eggs Benedict.  The meal is complimented with a meat, homemade pastries, juice and seasonal fruits.  You'll wake to the aroma of freshly ground and brewed coffee.  Whispering Pines signature mugs, handmade by Deneen Pottery, will keep your coffee, hot tea or homemade hot cocoa warm while you dine in the formal dining room, yet casual atmosphere.  In season, Jeanna uses produce and fruits from her gardens and the local farmers market and out of season, she may even pull the  home-canned goodies from the cellar.  She's happy to make accommodations for dietary restrictions or food allergies, just let Jeanna know ahead of time.

Whispering Pines has a restaurant license and will hosts special events such as Mystery Dinners and brunches throughout the year.  Check special events and packages for specific event dates and details.  Or, be host to your own special occasion and reserve the facility for a celebration luncheon, birthday, or shower.  Jeanna can create a custom seasonal menu just for you and your special guests.  A romantic in-room dinner can also be served in certain rooms or dine on the porch in season.

Historic Nebraska City and the surrounding area offer plenty of activities for the traveler or tourist.  Just two blocks from Whispering Pines is the Arbor Lodge State Historical Park and historic home of J. Sterling Morton, founder of Arbor Day.  More sites of interest for the history buff are the Mayhew Cabin with John Brown's Cave (only Nebraska connection to the Underground Railroad), Missouri River Basin Lewis and Clark Center, Old Freighter's Museum, GAR Civil War/Veteran's Museum, and Wildwood Historic Home.

Art and culture are available at the local artist's residence, Kimmel-Harding Nelsen Center for the Arts and small town music and theater performances can be found in nearby Manley and Brownville.

Our orchards and parks have preserved nature in all it's glory, allow you to experience u-pick fruits, a picnic in the park as well as wines from the vineyards.  The Missouri River boarders the East edge of Nebraska City providing water recreation and camping.  The Cherry blossoms, lilacs and fall foliage are absolutely amazing!

Boutique shopping and antique stores make Nebraska City a fun stop for girlfriends or anyone on the hunt for that special treasure.

For the sports enthusiast, there are two golf courses, Table Creek and Wildwood, providing 36 holes and Steamboat Trace Hiking and Bicycling Trail just outside of town.  This 22-mile rails to trails system takes you South through Peru and into Brownville.  Hunting, Fishing and Horse back riding is also available in the tri-state area.

Jeanna has partnered with local entities and created packages available especially for guests of Whispering Pines and is pleased to provide concierge services and assist you in planning your visit and offer recommendations and advice on what to see and do.

A business traveler rate is available for mid-week, single occupancy.  Small business meetings or retreats can be accommodated for day rental or to include overnight lodging.

The grounds at Whispering Pines make a perfect setting for a wedding, family reunion or marriage proposal.

Whispering Pines is open year round and has gift certificates for sale.  Two rooms are pet friendly.

Nebraska City is only 50 miles from the cities of Omaha and Lincoln and a great stopping off point if you're heading to the capital city for a Husker game or to the world renowned Henry Doorly Zoo or SAC Airspace Museum.

Come visit to experience behind the pines and the unexpected extras!  Many come a stranger and leave a friend.    Relax.  Retreat.  Renew.
