Nebraska Fishing

There is excellent fishing in Nebraska. People who regularly travel along the I-80 corridor know that there are over forty opportunities to fish just off the interstate. Avid fisherman have a lifetime permit, and keep their fishing rod in their car; after all, travelers need to stop and stretch from time to time, and what better way to stretch than to practice your cast? It is believed that some of the best, most consistent bass fishing in Nebraska is found in the waters along I-80.
The two best places to find trout in Nebraska are said to be Lake McConaughy, just north of Ogallala, and the Sutherland Reservoir State Recreation Area, east of Ogallala. Yet there is fantastic fishing throughout the state. River fishing is also popular here; the Platte River crosses the center of the state, the Missouri River runs along the eastern edge of the state, and the Niobrara River crosses the northern section of the state. With their numerous tributaries, they provide many opportunities for fishing by boat or along the shore. There is even good fly fishing to be had in Nebraska.
With a little planning, it is easy to incorporate fishing into your Nebraska Bed and Breakfast vacation year round. You don’t even need to own a rod, as many state parks and shops have them available to rent. You do need to know the rules, so it is worth familiarizing yourself with limits and seasons.
It is easy to find a Nebraska Bed and Breakfast near good fishing. Some Nebraska Inns will run fishing specials from time to time, working hand in hand with outfitters or guides. There is no reason you can’t enjoy a little luxury during your fishing trip, and no reason you can’t include a little fishing into your vacation. Think outside the box, throw your fishing rod in the car, and have fun.
