Eastern Nebraska is home to many fine, green golf courses, both private and public. Many private clubs will open their doors to visitors for a reasonable fee. Although Nebraska may not be widely known as a spot for premier golfing, many courses here are challenging and fun, and many are located in lovely settings. Along the Missouri River, in particular, the views can stretch out for miles. 

Golfing in Nebraska is worthwhile for one particular reason, however. There are eighteen courses with sand greens. Young golfers may not know what these are, but more seasoned golfers may remember a time when irrigation was not widespread, and sand greens were the norm, especially along the windswept plains. Hone your skills by playing courses such as Callaway Golf Club, along the South Loup River, or the Riverside Golf Course in Central City, north of Grand Island. 

Many Nebraska Bed and Breakfasts are located close to golf courses, and it is not uncommon for inns to offer golfing specials. Nebraska Inns may cover your entrance fee into a club, or lunch at a nearby course. Avid golfers should always peruse the specials pages before making travel plans, as they may find motivation to try a new course there.

There are many courses in Eastern Nebraska, such as Spring Lake Park Course in Omaha and Highlands Course in Lincoln. Several excellent courses are located along the border with Iowa and Missouri as well. Sand Hills Course in Mullen, on the Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway, is a lovely course in the center of the state. Wild Horse Course in Gothenburg, along North Platte River, is a good spot in the southwest corner of the state.

The next time you are heading to a Nebraska Bed and Breakfast, be sure to throw your golf clubs in the car. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to golf in this state.
